Engineering Studies

Engineering StudiesHCM’s in house electrical & mechanical engineering departments ensure our customer’s they are receiving the highest level of attention from industry professionals. As new opportunities arise, HCM assembles a team of a Technical Sales Manager, Project Manager, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers with the background to support our clients with the initial design phase. HCM begins every project with site evaluation which includes AutoCAD layouts of existing equipment, discussions with managers as well as operators, collection of all know product specifications, and desired system performance specifications. The data collected is compiled and studied to create a scope of work for the application based on the customer’s needs. Concepts are derived from the scope and are accompanied by detailed rate and throughput calculations, simulations, ROI, as well as ergonomic considerations. This process is reviewed until all facets of the project are defined and approved.

Facilities Layout

Facilities LayoutThere is more to an automation system than just the equipment being supplied. HCM utilizes its diverse knowledge of manufacturing and warehouse facilities to recommend layouts which optimize material flow throughout the design. 3-D layouts & simulations help our clients visualize space and interference while maximizing efficiency. HCM’s designs are developed with state of the art software, including AutoCAD, 3-D Studio Vis, Sim Pro and RS Logix 2000. Electronic file sharing, design reviews and drawing mark-up expedite the design process. HCM knows business plans change and considers flexibility and future change in all our recommendations. Whether it’s a single stand alone system or a fully integrated supply chain system, HCM is your partner for systems integration.

Controls Design

HCM’s internal controls group gives our clients a single point of contact for systems integration. HCM’s experience includes: PLC, PC and custom applications with expertise in conveyor control, conveyor sortation, palletizing, bar code scanning, label print and apply, pick to light, shipment manifesting & web reporting. HCM’s custom WCS product gives HCM the ability to interact with existing WMS control packages to allow for seamless system integration.

Human Machine Interface (HMI)

HMI screens allow for Human Machine Interface. HCM’s engineering department designs systems that contain graphical user interfaces (GUI), Web-based user interfaces, command line and touch interfaces. The HMI display allows clients to effectively and efficiently interact with the system controls. Typical screens include system overview with alarm and fault status, systems product and or unit load selection, system report generation, remote device reporting and help screens. Due to HCM’s vast experience previous designs can often be modified to accommodate our client’s custom needs, thus reducing development cost and lead time.

Installations

HCM offers complete turnkey union and non-union installation for all our projects. From mechanical to electrical installation, HCM works with the customer to coordinate complex systems installations while minimizing customer downtime. Detailed installation drawings are drafted in house and reviewed with our crews prior to installation startup. Careful installation planning helps eliminate problems in the field and prevents costly mistakes. HCM’s project management team oversees all facets of the installation, startup occurs on time, every time.

Project Management

Project ManagementHCM’s experienced project managers provide a single point of contact for the customer throughout the entire project. Project managers are responsible for not only scheduling, but also drafting a functional narrative detailing all component functions within the system and reviewing with the customer. Detailed site evaluations, installation drawings, and bill of materials are provided to ensure simplified installations and startup. FAT / SAT runoffs are coordinated and evaluated by the project manager to ensure meeting system performance requirements. HCM project managers provide expertise throughout the installation and coordinate a final walk through with the customer ensuring project completeness. All HCM System installations include system training, recommended spare parts lists and manuals, as well as support after the system is complete.

Operator Training

In order to maximize system parameters and to minimize down time, HCM believes that operator training is the catalyst to running a system at its full potential. HCM’s training program involves all key personnel, operations, facility and maintenance are provided comprehensive instruction in the operation and maintenance of the installed system. Training begins during the installation and testing phases of the project, operators become familiar with the inner workings of the system and learn how to troubleshoot when problems arise, and continue upon system acceptance. In addition, HCM often sends clients to our suppliers training programs keeping them informed on the latest in product development and availability.

Customer Support

HCM offers a full range of support packages including: onsite planned maintenance, onsite emergency breakdown, remote & 24/7 support packages. HCM can custom tailor a support package that meets your needs. With access to a wide range of parts that will delivery the next day, HCM Systems is dedicated to maximizing our client’s uptime.
